Dubai city, until the 1930’s, was known for its pearl exports. It has since been enriched by petroleum exports. After the British withdrawal in 1971 Dubai came together with Abudhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Ak Quwain Fujairah and in 1972 Ras Al Khaimah to create the federation of the United Arab Emirates.

Dubai is a fast growing country which will welcome 15 million tourists by the year 2010 according to authorized sources. It has concentrated on a wide range of development and construction plans designed to promote tourism.
